Charles Ellebrecht, President - Term expires 2020
Charles was elected to the school board in November 2015. Charles was raised in the Eel River Valley and graduated from Fortuna High School in 2002. Charles is married to his wife Katie and has one child. Charles has previously worked on campus as a school resource officer. Charles has a B.A. in Law Enforcement Administration and is also the current President of the Non-Profit Fortuna Police Employee’ Foundation. Charles has also served as a member of the Ambrosini School Site Council.
Charles believes the district provides an excellent learning environment and looks forward to helping the district continue to provide excellent educational opportunities for our youth.
Seth McGrath, Vice President - Term expires 2022
Seth came to the Eel River Valley in early 2016 to open the Fortuna Grocery Outlet with his wife Stefanie. They have 3 children, Spencer who is a freshman at Fortuna High, Trent who is in 7th grade at Fortuna Middle and Hayden who is in 4th grade at South Elementary.
Seth was born and raised in South Lake Tahoe. He began his career at Raley's Superstore in 1997 where he spent 16 years, 8 of which were as a Store Director. In 2013, Seth made the decision to jump into the family business and join the Grocery Outlet family. Seth and Stefanie trained in South Lake Tahoe to own and operate their own store and in 2014 were awarded a store in Fresno, CA. After spending a year in Fresno, they decided that it was time to find a place to set roots. Seth and Stefanie fell in love with the Eel River Valley and they are proud to call Fortuna their home.
Seth looks forward to bringing his business experience to the board and working with the other trustees to uphold the mission and vision of the district.
Carla Diaz, Clerk - Term expires 2022
Carla has been a resident of Fortuna for over 20 years. She is married to Carlos Diaz, who is a fire fighter, and together they have two children that are in the explorer program. Both children attend Fortuna High School, Darly as a junior and Angel as a freshman. All members of Carla's family are very involved in the community, each being a part of the Fortuna Fire Department.
Carla belongs to the Ladies Auxiliary group and recently completed the Fortuna Police Department Citizen Academy. She currently works for Northcoast Children's Services as a 0-3 home visitor and occasionally at Fortuna Middle School as an interpreter. Carla looks forward to being a member of the Fortuna Union High School District Board of Trustees because she believes that as a parent it is important to be involved with the school. She wants to explore all the ways that the district can better serve the students, promote a safe learning environment and assist in making wise decisions with the funds that the school receives.
Charlie Giannini, Trustee - Term expires 2020
My family has been in California since before the gold rush and I am a fifth generation Californian. My wife, Jean, and I have been married for 42 years. Her family has been in Humboldt County since the 1870’s primarily in the Arcata-McKinleyville-Blue Lake areas. Our son, Andy, is a 1993 graduate of Fortuna High. He taught for seven years and is presently the Principal of Olive Grove Elementary School in Antelope-Roseville, California.
In 1967 I earned a BS in Natural Resources from Humboldt State. I retired from the U.S. Army Combat Engineer after 22 years of service. During the late 70’s I ran a hands on manpower training program for RCAA. I have given workshops at College of the Redwoods and possess a lifetime teaching certificate.
I worked in maintenance at the Humboldt County Hospital and at Fortuna high for 16 ½ years and was a millwright for seven years at various mills. Presently, UI work for Wendt Construction operating heavy equipment specializing in watershed and wildlife habitat restoration.
I also served as the Chairman of the Board at North Coast Community Christian School for 11 years.Mr. Giannini can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org
Anita Gage, Trustee - Term expires 2022
Anita Gage retired from Fortuna High School in 2004 after teaching English there for 20 years. She also worked with the Humboldt County Office of Education in the Career Education Department for four years and with the Denver Public Schools for eight years.
She has written federal grants, developed state-wide curriculum in career education and worked as an educational liaison with the Colorado State Legislature, as well as provided inservice career education, writing and gender equity.
Mrs. Gage graduated Magna Cum Laude From the University of Colorado in Speech and Theatre after also attending San Diego State University and California Lutheran University. She received her MA in Education Administration from Humboldt State University.
