Our staff spotlight this week is Valerie Holmes. Valerie has worked in the district office as the payroll/benefits coordinator for eleven years. Valerie has been married to Mike for 26 years. They have two sons and a daughter. Valerie enjoys cooking, exercising, going on beach treasure hunts and spending time with family and friends. She greets everyone with a smile and takes pride in her work.
Our staff spotlight this week is Ian Campbell. Ian has been teaching music for 19 years and has been with Fortuna High School for six years. Ian moved here from Texas with his wife, Amber. They have been married for 16 years and have one son named Dane. When asked what he enjoys most about working for Fortuna High School, he said the students are amazing and he likes the group of supportive parents. Ian said the welcoming environment has made the years fly by and he can't believe it’s already been 6 years. He said he is happy his wife convinced him to move here. Outside of work, Ian is obsessed with playing Disc Golf. It is something that he picked up while living in Iowa and has carried on here. Ian loves the scenic and challenging courses that Humboldt County has to offer. In the past six years, Ian has rebuilt a thriving music department that the district is proud of. Staff Spotlight This week’s staff spotlight is Tony Miles. Tony has been teaching auto shop at Fortuna High School for 12 years; he is also the Girls JV Volleyball coach. Tony has been married for 22 year to Shalise Miles they have two daughters Keira and Maleesa. Tony enjoys sharing his knowledge and the love of auto shop with his students. In his off time he enjoys fishing, sports and cars. Tony brings a wealth of knowledge and real world experience to our school and his profession. Thanks to the diligent efforts of our local law enforcement agencies and community members, law enforcement has a suspect in custody they believe to be the culprit of the threat. The investigation will be ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Fortuna Police Department. Law enforcement will be demobilizing their protection of the campus as soon as school releases today and school will proceed as usual tomorrow.

School administration received messages regarding a SnapChat circulating regarding shooting up Fortuna High School at 12:45 tomorrow. We alerted law enforcement immediately. They launched an investigation and have many leads. We are in constant communication with law enforcement. We will update you as information is available.
Staff Spotlight Gina Salmon has been with the district for seven years. She is currently the Academy of the Redwoods school secretary and previously the cafeteria manager. She has five sons and six grandchildren. Gina enjoys fishing, cooking (not baking), working in her garden and loves being outside. Gina enjoys working with the students and amazing staff at AR. Gina is a model employee that continually goes above and beyond for the school and district. Please join us in appreciating our weekly staff spotlight Gina Salmon.
Fortuna High School District would like to wish the best to Sarah as she moves forward with her career as the Rio Dell Community Resource Center Coordinator. Sarah has been with the district for the past 13 years six of those years were as the District Secretary and seven as the East High School Secretary. Sarah is dedicated always went above and beyond and cared for every student she worked with. Congratulations Sarah and thank you for all your hard work.
