
Shout out to our Campus Supervisor, Noe Vasquez. Noe has been named one of Humboldt County's Classified School Employees of the Year. We are proud to have Noe here at our district. He is always kind to everyone, he has a great work ethic and helps to keep our campus safe. Thank you Noe for all you do and congratulations on your award.


Huge shout out to Sandy Dale and Ann Marie Rocha.
Our district is very proud of them both as they represent us at the annual State FFA Leadership Conference. Both bringing home awards. Sandy Dale won State Star Support Staff of the year and Ann Marie won Star North Coast Region CTE counselor of the year.

Scott and Max Betts father and son duo, are our Staff Spotlights this week. Scott teaches English at East High School and Max teaches physical education at Fortuna High School.
Scott has worked for the district for five years and has been in education for over twenty years. Scott began his career with elementary students and now enjoys working with high school students. Scott enjoys coaching the East High School Basketball Team, the FUHSD staff and working alongside his son Max Betts. Scott said, "A bonus is working in the same district with my son, Max Betts. It is great being able to bounce ideas off of one another. "
Max has been teaching at the district for four years. Scott has coached a variety of different sports at Fortuna High School. Max said, ". One of my favorite parts about working in the district is the support that I feel from not only my co-workers but the students as well. Lastly, I am lucky to have my dad Scott Betts teaching in the district. Being a newer teacher, it is pretty unreal that I have my own dad to bounce ideas off of. "
The district is proud to have this father-son duo, both former students and now staff.

Our staff spotlight this week is Kathleen Lynch. Kathleen has worked for our district for 10 years, she teaches P.E. and is the Social and Emotional Learning Coordinator. Kathleen enjoys the people she works with, teaching and sharing her experiences with the students.
Kathleen has been with her significant other Jeff for 16 years. Kathleen’s hobbies include hiking, kayaking and exercising.
Kathleen is a model employee who is willing to step up to anything that is asked of her and is respected and liked by everyone.


Our staff spotlight this week is Norm Sotomayor. Norm has been working as a counselor for our district for the past five years. Norm left the business world and got into education so so he could a positive impression on today's youth. Norm is a Fortuna High School alumni, he enjoys working with and coaching students at the school where he graduated from and played sports at. Norm is married to Wendy and together they have two children Lane and Lexi.
Norm is the ultimate team player, always willing to pitch in and help. He has the best interest of the students in mind and is willing to support them in any way possible to ensure their success.



Carol Stone is our staff spotlight this week. Carol is a bus driver and the dispatcher for the district. She has worked for our district for 13 years. Carol enjoys her co-workers, working with students and the friendships she has created here.
Carol is married and has one son who is grown. She is a Victor Newman fan, from the young and restless. She enjoys going to her cabin and working at Ferndale Meat Company, her other job.
Carol is a caring, well organized person that puts the students and her friends before herself. Carol has an amazing work ethic and can always be counted on.


Alison Brewer is this week's Staff Spotlight! Ali teaches math and Tier at Academy of the Redwoods and has been with our district for 13 years. Ali loves making connections with students and supporting them through their high school experience. She says she also cherishes changing how students feel about themselves and their mathematical abilities.
Ali has been married to her husband for 9 years and has a dog that brings her joy every day! After a long school year Ali enjoys relaxing and reflecting on her craft by sitting poolside in the sunshine with friends.
"I am fortunate to be a part of this AR community and appreciate the time I have been here and the friendships I have made."

Hope everyone is safe. Thank you to staff who came in to ensure our campus was clean and safe for our students to return. We intend to resume classes tomorrow Wednesday December 21st as long as power is restored by 6:00 am. Should the power outage continue we will update our status accordingly. Thank you.

Rob Marshall is this week’s staff Spotlight. Rob teaches at Fortuna High School. He has been with our district for 26 years and he has plans to retire at the end of this school year. In his career he has enjoyed the student interaction and watching the students grow and become powerful. He has confidence in our youth and looks forward to seeing them grow. Rob has been married to Denise Marshall for 36 years, together they have two children, Ben and Lauren and two grandchildren. Rob enjoys fly fishing and being a handyman.
Rob has been a pillar of our school community for many years and has taken on various roles to strengthen the school and district.


Our staff spotlight this week is Byron Barker. Byron has been with the district for six years as our network administrator. He has been with his partner Amy K. Conley Ed. D. for 10 years. Together they enjoy traveling and camping. Byron enjoys providing a valuable service for staff and students who use technology and helping students prepare for the future. Byron is a pleasure to work with, he is always gracious and patient.

Our staff spotlight this week is Heather Brown. Heather is our East High School science teacher. Heather has been teaching for our district for 19 years. Heather enjoys the small school setting at East High School, working one-on-one with the students and the relationships she has been able to make. Heather has been with her significant other for over 20 years. In her spare time, she enjoys deep-sea fishing, gardening and baking. Heather is a positive role model to our students. Recently she has taken them on many fun and educational trips, which engages the students and creates a positive atmosphere at East High School.

Our staff spotlight this week is Valerie Holmes. Valerie has worked in the district office as the payroll/benefits coordinator for eleven years. Valerie has been married to Mike for 26 years. They have two sons and a daughter. Valerie enjoys cooking, exercising, going on beach treasure hunts and spending time with family and friends. She greets everyone with a smile and takes pride in her work.


Our staff spotlight this week is Ian Campbell. Ian has been teaching music for 19 years and has been with Fortuna High School for six years. Ian moved here from Texas with his wife, Amber. They have been married for 16 years and have one son named Dane.
When asked what he enjoys most about working for Fortuna High School, he said the students are amazing and he likes the group of supportive parents. Ian said the welcoming environment has made the years fly by and he can't believe it’s already been 6 years. He said he is happy his wife convinced him to move here.
Outside of work, Ian is obsessed with playing Disc Golf. It is something that he picked up while living in Iowa and has carried on here. Ian loves the scenic and challenging courses that Humboldt County has to offer.
In the past six years, Ian has rebuilt a thriving music department that the district is proud of.

J has worked for the district for 16 years. J has been married for 37 years and has four daughters. His wife and daughter own Garcia’s Florist in Fortuna. In his off time he enjoys spending time with his family and going to the beach. J brings a great work ethic and a contagious, positive personality to the district.

The job of Food Service Manager is done for the purpose(s) of supervising food service activities at assigned school sites. Job duties include but are not limited to: assisting staff in completing assigned functions, organizing food preparation activities, confirming quantities and quality of food items available for use, providing written reports, and complying with mandated health requirements.
Qualifications:

Staff Spotlight
This week’s staff spotlight is Tony Miles. Tony has been teaching auto shop at Fortuna High School for 12 years; he is also the Girls JV Volleyball coach. Tony has been married for 22 year to Shalise Miles they have two daughters Keira and Maleesa. Tony enjoys sharing his knowledge and the love of auto shop with his students. In his off time he enjoys fishing, sports and cars. Tony brings a wealth of knowledge and real world experience to our school and his profession.
